Guide for Renting to International Students

The United States hosts over 1 million international students because we are a world leader in higher education, and more than 55,000 of them are in Illinois – many of those, of course, in Chicago and its surrounding areas.

At Northwestern, 23% of our student population consists of international students. From April and May onwards until the beginning of each new academic year in September, newly admitted international graduate students begin looking for housing in Evanston and Chicago. As this timeline differs from our undergraduate population, we want to proivde a How to Rent to International Students Guide to help you know how to handle common challenges you may face when renting to an international student.
